Taylor Swift makes history at Grammys

Singer says she is ‘mind blown’ as she becomes the only artist to win the top music industry prize four times

Taylor Swift became the first artist to win Album of the Year four times at the Grammy Awards – as she also revealed the release date of her next LP.
The star secured the top award of the night with her tenth studio album Midnights, having previously won for Fearless in 2009, again six years later for 1989, and most recently for Folklore in 2020.
Earlier in the night, she announced her new album Tortured Poets Department would be released on April 19.
As she collected the award from Celine Dion, she said: “Oh god, no. I don’t know man.”
She praised her friend and long-term collaborator Jack Antonoff as a “once in a generation” producer and her fellow nominee Lana Del Rey as a “legacy artist” and a “legend in her prime right now”.
She added: “I would love to tell you that this is the best moment in my life, but I feel this happy when I finish a song or when I crack the code to a bridge that I love or when I’m shotlisting a music video, or when I’m rehearsing with my dancers or my band, or getting ready to go to Tokyo to play a show.
“For me, the award is the work. All I want to do is keep being able to do this. I love it so much. It makes me so happy.
“It makes me unbelievably blown away that it makes some people happy who voted for this award too. All I want to do is keep doing this. So thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to do what I love so much – mind blown”.
She broke the news about her new album after U2 frontman Bono announced she won Best Pop Vocal Album for Midnights.
Swift said: “Okay this is my 13th Grammy. Which is my lucky number… if I’ve ever told you that.
“I know that the way the Recording Academy voted is a direct reflection of the passion from the fans.
“So I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I have been keeping from you for the last two years
“Which is that my brand new album comes out April 19, it’s called the Tortured Poets Department, I’m going to go and post the cover right now backstage, thank you, I love you.”
On Instagram, Swift posted a black-and-white image of her reclining across pillows.
“All’s fair in love and poetry…” her caption read.

Swift had provoked mass speculation earlier in the night when her website seemed to go down. Some theorised she was gearing up to release Reputation (Taylor’s Version).
The site is back up now, focused around the upcoming album, with preordering and merchandise options.
Swift is set to head back out on her Eras tour this week, performing for four nights in Tokyo.
Meanwhile, Kylie Minogue jumped for joy in her dressing room after being taken by surprise about winning her second-ever Grammy.
The Australian singer, 55, won Best Pop Dance Recording for Padam Padam, 20 years after her previous triumph for Best Dance Recording for Come Into My World in 2004.
The 2024 award was one of 80 Grammys handed out during the Premiere Ceremony, a pre-televised show and Kylie was clearly taken unawares, judging by a social media video she posted.
It shows Kylie in a dressing room getting ready for the main event when an assistant calls out “two-time Grammy winner…” Kylie shrieked with delight and jumped around in her dressing gown in celebration.
Her co-writer Peter Rycroft picked up the prize on her behalf. “I just want to say thank you to the icon that is Kylie for believing in this record,” he said.
